MRDS
(Medium Density Residential Standards)
Changes to the Resource Management Act Comes into Force August 2022
These standards will enable people to develop up to three dwellings on each site, each being up to three storeys, without needing to apply for a resource consent. If you live in an Auckland Suburb you can build 3 new townhouses up to 3 storey high on your property without a resource consent. You can also have a building footprint covering 50% of the land area.
For example if you had 600m2 of land, you could have a building footprint of 300m2. That would give you 100m2 of land for each of the 3 x townhouse. If you also build 3 storey high it could therefore be as big as 300m2.
Now that’s a big home to live in!
